Polo Shirts: Development Over the Years
In the late 19th and early 20th century, tennis players were part of the highest classes of society, if not aristocracy. These players were dressed in so-called “tennis kids” (tennis whites) – a long-sleeved button-down shirt, flannel pants and ties. As you can guess, it wasn’t very sporty.
This quirky sports suit puts social fashion before the needs of tennis players. For this reason, Rene Lacoste, seven-time Grand Slam winner, decided to take action. This act made him an international pioneer for shirts.
The Evolution of Lacoste Shirts – Printed Shirts
The Lacoste shirt was designed by a loose knit, with its flat top and starched collar, with two or three buttons. In addition, the back of the shirt was longer than the front. This is now known as tennis style.
This shirt was set at the 1926 US Open Tennis Championship. A year later the crocodile made his famous debut on the shirt, becoming one of the world’s best known brands. The crocodile settled on the left side of the chest. American media called Lacoste “Crocodile”, a beloved nickname, further branding the parties.
The Pioneer of Shirts
Lacoste’s design solved a number of traditional acute-time tennis problems, whether for short-sleeved, collared or breathable loosened fabric. After retiring from playing, Lacoste joined his friend Andre and co-founded the empire as we know it. Lacoste shirts were marketed throughout Europe and North America.
In the coming year, polo players – noble in their own right – adopted the innovative design. In 1972 Ralph Lauren launched a new fashion line, simply called “polo” with no specific product market for polo players or athletes in general. The phenomenon began to gain momentum.
Polo Shirts Trending in Today’s Society
Another benefit of polo shirts is that they are suitable for a variety of events in many styles. You can wear this shirt with jeans and give yourselves a simple yet neat look. You can also wear it with dressier pants.
Over the years, Polo shirts have become less specialized and aristocratic. Many gardeners, technicians, salespeople and the like actually wear shirts. Because these shirts are very durable and comfortable, they are very useful for professionals. In recent years, T-shirt printing with a company brand (such as a crocodile) became a common sight.
Youth Polo Shirts
In the 90’s, the high-tech industry made it acceptable to wear polo shirts to meetings, which spread to other areas. This was one of the reasons that “business casual” spread – clothes that fit the everyday business.
Many schools use polo shirt uniforms, but that does not prevent many young people from adding their own spice to printed shirts. Cotton shirts, which were invented for a purpose, are one of the most fashionable, most popular lines in the world.
